Letter from our Chairman

Where does all the time go? It seems only moments ago we were enjoying the end of the summer activities and looking forward to the summer break, and now we are well into our new HRI calendar year and busy planning our first event in the coming year. As always it is an exciting time of year as we welcome new members to Hospital Radio Ipswich. Terry and Jane who have recently joined us have slotted in to Wednesday evenings with a view of supporting other projects within HRI. I trust that their time with us will be rewarding and an enjoyable one.

Alongside the usual autumn events this year we have the added highlight of a Christmas collection being held at Asda, Whitehouse Industrial Estate on Saturday 4th December 2010. My experience of collection days would hopefully suggest that the collection be a fruitful one and many of our members would support such an event. We are once again planning this Christmas to support the East Anglian Children’s Hospice by donating half of our collection to the Treehouse Appeal.

It is always good to hear from former members especially if the experience of Paul Brown is around. This year Paul has been in touch to give his support to HRI. I have to confess to being a sucker for radio so it’s really nice to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you and to commend all of our members, friends of HRI and above all the listeners for their outstanding contribution.

In my youth, I would normally be found at the bottom of the Garden with my Gramophone playing ‘Sugar Bush’ and ‘She wears Red Feathers’ rather than doing homework. Well, you’re only young once! Similarly, like the bottom of my garden Hospital Radio Ipswich is a great place to be and unlike my garden at its best there are many people from all walks of life.

Finally, as I conclude my annual report of the 2010/2011 committee year we must now look forward to interesting times ahead. Internet broadcasting comes to mind with great strides being made by our streaming sub-committee. Naturally, our website will keep everyone informed with up to date reports and views. So, with a great team behind HRI and a station going places why not come and join our band of Volunteers at HRI or even become a Friend of HRI and enjoy the experience of a lifetime.

Regards,
Kevin Ashford
Chairman HRI
