Come and visit our studio

The studio complex of Suffolk’s oldest radio station at Hospital Radio Ipswich will be open to the public as part of this year’s Heritage Open Days.

Many patients at Ipswich Hospital will have had a visit from the radio station’s members and had their favourite tune played on the daily request shows. However it is not normally possible to see the studios from which the programmes are broadcast.

As part of Heritage Open Days the station is opening it’s doors to the public on Sunday 15th September between 11am – 4pm.

You will be able to see the studios and record library (which contains possibly the largest vinyl collection in Suffolk) as well as meeting and talking to station volunteers. Refreshments will be available as well.

The studios are located at the North end of the hospital near the big chimney. Visitors are advised to enter via the North entrance (entrance 15) from where the station will be signposted on the day.

The station is proud of the fact that it is the most listened to radio station within the hospital and has been entertaining patients and staff since 1974 when it started at the old Ipswich Hospital.
Hospital Radio Ipswich is based at Heath Road Hospital where it’s volunteer members broadcast a variety of programmes every day of the week.

If you would like to know more about the service or maybe volunteer please speak to one of the station’s representatives.
