The new committee year

October is always a very busy month for Hospital Radio Ipswich because its the month of our Annual General Meeting and this year it fell on Sunday 4th at 11am. It was quite a positive occasion for the station because a vote was held to amend our constitution slightly to allow us to carry out the task of internet broadcasting via streaming. The exact date of when we’ll go live via the web is still yet to be decided but our streaming sub committee is working very hard in getting it all sorted so keep looking back to the website for all the latest on that topic. Consequently, a Streaming page for the website is in progress. On top of the constitution being amended for streaming we also took the opportunity to not only allow you to join HRI as a voluntary member but for the people who don’t have the time to commit to HRI the choice of becoming a Friend of Hospital Radio Ipswich instead. For more details on this issue please see the Membership page.

The other highlight of the Annual General Meeting was the election of the Executive Committee and theProduction Committee. Your officers for the 2010/2011 committee year are:

  • Kevin Ashford – Chairperson
  • Keith Clempson – Vice Chairperson
  • Mike Bugg – Treasurer
  • Gemma G – Secretary
  • Tim Ward – Production Chairperson
  • Chris Thorn – Chief Librarian
  • Nigel Taylor – Chief Engineer
  • Matt Carr – Roadshow manager (with the aid of Gemma G)
  • Wendy Cook – Membership Secretary
  • Mark Keable – Public Relations Officer
  • Robert Peters – Events Co-ordinator
  • Bob Medd – Production Member
  • Gemma G – Production Member

HRI would like to thank Mark Murphy and Lesley Dolphin from BBC Radio Suffolk for being our Presidents and consequently their contribution to the meeting. Overall, it was a well attended event and thats due to the commitment of our members so thank you.

In mid October some of our members attended the BBC Pop Quiz at the Corn Exchange where the aim of the event was to raise money for the Each Anglian Children’s Hospice Treehouse Appeal. Regardless of how well and how badly our two Hospital Radio teams did in the quiz the highlight for us was when Tiggy Tiger took to the stage (see picture below) to formally hand over a cheque to Melanie Chew, which we raised during our Asda collections. If you gave us money, which we split 50/50 between us and the EACH Treehouse Appeal then thank you. We are both grateful for your support. If you ever wonder where the money you give goes then, when its up and running, take a look at the Finance page.

Our next Asda collection is on Saturday 4th December 2010 and four more Asda dates have been added for next year. These are:

  • Saturday 19th March 2011
  • Saturday 25th June 2011
  • Saturday 24th June 2011
  • Saturday 3rd December 2011

Over to this month, November, Hospital Radio Ipswich are planning an historical link up to Hospital Radio Norwich to broadcast the Town v Norwich City away match. One of our commentators are heading up north to join the Hospital Radio Norwich commentary team and a special football show shall be held on Sunday 28th November 2010 at 12:30pm. Lets hope Town win! On the topic of football the Tiger Club show will be broadcasted on the 4th December at the earlier time of 11am to make way for the Town v Swansea City football show at 12:30pm. As we get towards Christmas there will be some schedule changes so keep checking here for all the latest details of what shows will be starting when.

Finally, I’m currently putting together a History of HRI page and I see it as your chance to get involved because I’m looking for your memories of HRI and any pictures you might have of the station that represents the positive work the organisation does for the hospital. If you feel you can help please get it touch with Gemma G by clicking Contact HRI. Until next time – Ta Rah!
